Steins;Gate Anime Turns 15: Anniversary Project Kicks Off With New Art and Akihabara Exhibition

MAGES and Kadokawa have officially launched a new website and project to mark 15 years since the Steins;Gate anime first aired. To get things started, fresh artwork featuring the main cast has been released, and an exhibition in Akihabara has been confirmed for July 2026. More announcements are expected to follow in the coming months.

For those unfamiliar, Steins;Gate centers on Rintarou Okabe, a self-proclaimed mad scientist who accidentally discovers a way to send text messages into the past. Alongside his friends Mayuri and Itaru “Daru,” Okabe begins experimenting with these time-altering messages which they call D-Mails. Their experiments soon catch the eye of a shadowy organization known as SERN, putting Okabe and his friends in serious danger.

Things get more complicated when Okabe meets Kurisu Makise, a brilliant young scientist. Together, the two dig deeper into how time travel works and what it really costs. As Okabe jumps between different timelines called worldlines, he has to wrestle with the emotional and moral weight of changing the past to protect the people he cares about.

The original Steins;Gate visual novel was later remade as Steins;Gate Elite, which replaced the game’s artwork with scenes from the anime. Building on that, Steins;Gate Re:Boot is an upcoming release that will include a new ending and new visuals. It is set to launch in 2026 on at least Steam, with Spike Chunsoft handling the English localization.
