The rhythm roguelite game Ratatan, from the creators of the beloved Patapon series, is officially dropping its PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch versions. The announcement was made by developer TVT and Ratata Arts, alongside publisher Game Source Entertainment.
The reason given was straightforward: the teams did not believe the number of copies they could sell on those older platforms would be enough to cover the licensing fees required to finish and release the game on them. As an indie team working with limited resources, they chose to focus their efforts on fewer platforms to keep the overall quality as high as possible.
Those who backed the game for PS4 or Switch can swap their copy for one of the currently supported versions: Steam, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, or Xbox Series X|S. Backers who don’t have access to any of those platforms are encouraged to open a support ticket so the team can look into other options for them.

In a message from producer Sakajiro Kazuto, the team shared that Ratatan is in its final development phase, with a release date already announced during Nintendo’s Indie World showcase. The team initially had no plans for an Early Access period but decided to use it to gather feedback and improve the core mechanics something the producer says made the game noticeably better.
That said, the road hasn’t been without its difficulties. Some content was cut during development, and certain premium backer rewards will need more time to be completed. Physical rewards like the artbook may also ship after the game itself releases. The team says they remain committed to keeping backers updated even after launch.
