Sony has announced the discontinuation of its PlayStation Stars loyalty program, marking the end of a service that launched just over two years ago. The gaming giant confirmed that the program will cease accepting new members immediately, with complete shutdown scheduled for November 2, 2026.
The PlayStation Stars program, which debuted in late 2022 through the PlayStation App, was designed as a rewards system where players could earn points and collect digital collectibles by completing various gaming campaigns and activities. Members could showcase their earned collectibles in a virtual display case within the PlayStation App.

Current members will have a limited window to maximize their benefits. While existing PlayStation Stars participants can continue redeeming accumulated points until the program’s final closure in November 2026, the ability to earn new rewards will end much sooner. Starting July 23, 2025, members will no longer be able to earn Digital Collectibles, accumulate points, or advance their status levels within the program.
Grace Chen from PlayStation addressed the decision, explaining that the company has been analyzing player engagement patterns since the program’s launch. “Since launching the program, we’ve learned a lot from evaluating the types of activities our players respond best to, and as a company, we are always evolving with player and industry trends,” Chen stated.

Chen indicated that the company plans to apply insights gained from PlayStation Stars to future initiatives, saying, “We will continue to evaluate our key findings from this program, and are looking into ways to build upon these learnings.” When PlayStation Stars originally launched, Sony had expressed intentions to eventually expand the service beyond the mobile app to PlayStation consoles, though this expansion never materialized before the shutdown announcement.
