Sony Pictures is turning the beloved PlayStation game Bloodborne into an animated movie, and it is going to be rated R. No release date for the film has been announced at this time.
The announcement was made at CinemaCon 2026, where Sanford Panitch, president of Sony Pictures Entertainment Motion Picture Group, confirmed the project is in development. Panitch told the audience that the film will be “very true” to the spirit of the game, including the dark and gory tone that made Bloodborne a fan favorite.
The movie is co-produced by PlayStation Productions, Lyrical Animation, and popular YouTuber and streamer Sean McLoughlin, widely known online as Jacksepticeye. McLoughlin has a long history with Bloodborne and has built a following of 48 million fans through his gaming content over the years. The film is co-financed by Sony Pictures alongside Lyrical Media, the parent company of Lyrical Animation.

For those unfamiliar with the source material, Bloodborne is an action RPG developed by FromSoftware and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. It was released on PlayStation 4 on March 24, 2015, and follows a traveler who arrives in a gothic city overrun by nightmarish creatures. The game is known for its challenging gameplay, dark atmosphere, and heavy use of horror and violence, which the R rating of the animated film appears to reflect.
Sony Pictures and Sony Interactive Entertainment share the same parent company, Sony Group, which also puts PlayStation Productions under the same umbrella, making this a closely connected in-house adaptation.
