After more than six years without a single post, the official Crazy Taxi social media accounts on Twitter and Facebook have come back to life with a short five-second video. The clip shows a flashing “Taxi” sign, and it is the first update from these accounts since January 15, 2019. The brief teaser points to an official reveal coming soon for the new Crazy Taxi game that SEGA announced back in December 2023 during The Game Awards, where the company revealed that five of its classic series were getting new entries.
The video itself shows the iconic taxi light turning on atop what looks like the series’ familiar yellow convertible taxi. Short as it is, it is the first look at anything related to the project since that initial announcement.

The new game is being developed by SEGA’s Sapporo Studio, a team that was set up in December 2021. In 2024, the studio posted a recruitment video featuring Kenji Kanno, the director of the original Crazy Taxi. In that video, the team mentioned they were working on bringing the classic Crazy Taxi gameplay into a world with multiple players at once. It is not confirmed whether that version of the game is what is currently being teased.
What has been shared about the new entry describes it as having a “fresh style driving action” that blends a “cheerful feeling of freedom” with a “fusion of nature and city.”

For those unfamiliar with the series, the original Crazy Taxi launched in arcades in 1999 and exploded in popularity when it came to the Dreamcast in 2000, going on to become the third best-selling game on that console in the United States. The franchise has had several follow-ups over the years, but the last brand-new main entry, Crazy Taxi 3: High Roller, came out 22 years ago as an Xbox exclusive. No release date or platform details have been shared yet.
