SEGA has confirmed that its previously announced reboots of several classic franchises are still in development, following the quiet cancellation of its Super Game project.
The company revealed the cancellation of Super Game in its Q4 financial results presentation. The project was first mentioned five years ago and was described as a series of multiple triple-A titles that would cross over SEGA’s range of technologies and go beyond the traditional framework of games. Despite that cancellation, SEGA clarified that the classic IP reboots are unaffected and still moving forward.
The reboots in question were first announced at The Game Awards in December 2023, where SEGA revealed that new entries in the Shinobi, Jet Set Radio, Streets of Rage, Golden Axe, and Crazy Taxi series were all in development. Of those five, only Shinobi: Art of Vengeance has been released so far.
The latest financial results presentation shows that the remaining four titles, along with a new Virtua Fighter game and the sequel to Alien Isolation, are all still targeting a release in the financial year ending March 2027 or later. Beyond the initial announcements and brief teaser trailers back in 2023, SEGA has shared little additional information on any of these titles. For now, fans will have to wait for further updates as development continues.
