Blizzard Entertainment is developing a second StarCraft shooter game in partnership with Nexon, according to reports from South Korea. The report states that Nexon’s shooter division has started full development on a new game using the StarCraft universe. Nexon is known for owning the studio behind Arc Raiders.
A StarCraft shooter was first mentioned last year in journalist Jason Schreier’s book “Play Nice: The Rise, Fall, and Future of Blizzard Entertainment.” However, Schreier responded to the Korean report by saying the Nexon project appears to be separate from the shooter discussed in his book. This means Blizzard may be working on at least two different StarCraft shooter games.

According to the report, Nexon and Blizzard signed an agreement last year to work together on game content. Nexon has brought on new staff specifically for this project, which is being led by Choi Jun-ho, a well-known StarCraft modder.
The other shooter mentioned in Schreier’s book is being led by Dan Hay, the former head of Far Cry at Ubisoft. Hay left Ubisoft’s Montreal studio in 2021 after working there for ten years and helping guide the Far Cry series during its most successful years. A separate report from Windows Central suggests that StarCraft could be a major focus at BlizzCon in September, along with new content for Diablo IV and World of Warcraft.
If these reports are correct, these new projects would mark at least the fourth time Blizzard has tried to make a StarCraft shooter. Previous attempts include StarCraft Ghost and a project called Ares, both of which were cancelled.
