PlayStation Network (PSN) service has returned to normal operation following a significant outage that lasted nearly 24 hours, with Sony offering compensation to affected players. The widespread disruption, which began early February 8, impacted multiple PlayStation services, preventing users from accessing online features, digital game libraries, and even PS5 disc drive pairing functionality. The service was finally restored.

In response to the outage, Sony has announced that all PlayStation Plus subscribers will automatically receive a 5-day service extension as compensation. “Network services have fully recovered from an operational issue,” Sony stated. “We apologize for the inconvenience and thank the community for their patience.”
While online service interruptions are not uncommon in gaming networks, this particular outage highlighted ongoing concerns about digital game licensing on the PlayStation platform. Many players reported being unable to access their digital game libraries during the downtime. Even in cases where games could be launched offline, users encountered a 15-minute time limit before the system would close the game, citing an inability to verify the license.

Sony has not yet provided an explanation for the cause of the PSN service interruption. The timing of the outage was particularly unfortunate for players hoping to enjoy weekend gaming sessions. Looking ahead, Sony is preparing for an upcoming State of Play presentation, which is expected to showcase Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, following an early leak of the game’s release trailer on PlayStation Network.
