A dataminer known as “Roadrunner” dug through SteamDB and found hidden strings of code pointing to a new Steam feature called the Framerate Estimator. The tool, once live, would let you check how well a game will run on your PC before you purchase it.
Steam will soon tell you how much FPS you may get according to your PC specs by taking other Steam users with similar hardware.

From what the code reveals, the process is pretty straightforward. When you’re browsing a game’s Steam page, you’d be able to enter your PC specs such as your CPU, GPU, and how much RAM you have. Steam then pulls performance data from other users who have similar hardware and shows you a chart based on their experience. The idea is that if your setup matches theirs closely enough, your performance should land somewhere in the same ballpark.
It’s worth noting that Valve itself is calling it an “Estimator,” not a guarantee. The results are based on real user data from similar setups, so while it won’t give you a perfect number, it should give you a reasonable idea of where you stand.

Third-party websites like “Can You Run It?” have been doing something similar for years, letting players check if their hardware meets a game’s minimum or recommended requirements. Steam’s version, however, would live directly inside the platform itself, making it more accessible without needing to leave the store page.
As of now, the feature hasn’t been officially announced by Valve, and no release date has been mentioned. It was found through datamining, so it’s still unclear when or if it will roll out to the public.
