The Pokémon Company has revealed major news about Pokemon Champions, the upcoming Nintendo Switch and mobile game that will make its mark at the highest level of competitive Pokemon play. Starting in 2026, Pokemon Champions will serve as the official VGC (Video Game Championships) game for the Pokémon World Championships. This means the game will be used for the main competitive events, with Championship Series tournaments leading up to Worlds also featuring the new title.
A new official trailer for Pokemon Champions is now available, giving players their third look at the game in action and for the official VGC announcement. The free-to-play title will launch in 2026 across Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android devices, with compatibility confirmed for the Nintendo Switch 2. Players can expect optional in-app purchases alongside the base free experience.
One of the biggest gameplay additions comes in the form of Mega Evolution for Ranked Battles. The mechanic will be powered by the Omni Ring, described as a Key Stone device that plays a central role in both the game’s story and battle system.

The game is being developed by The Pokémon Works under the planning and production of GAME FREAK and The Pokémon Company. Nintendo will handle Switch sales while The Pokémon Company manages mobile distribution. Pokémon Champions will support nine languages at launch: Japanese, English, European and Latin American Spanish, French, German, Italian, Korean, and both Simplified and Traditional Chinese.
