The Pokémon Company has shared new details about the upcoming Pokemon Champions game during a special Pokémon Presents livestream hosted for fans around the world. The game is set to launch in 2026 across Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android devices.
Pokémon Champions centers around building the perfect team and outsmarting opponents in strategic trainer battles. Players will be able to add Pokémon to their teams through two different methods. Trial Recruitment lets players temporarily add Pokémon to their team, giving them a chance to test out different creatures and try new battle strategies before making permanent decisions.
For trainers who want to keep specific Pokémon long-term, Permanent Recruitment uses Victory Points (VP) earned through gameplay activities like Ranked Battles. Victory Points serve multiple purposes beyond just recruiting Pokémon. Players can spend VP to train their team members, customize their stats, and even change their abilities to match their preferred playing style. Pokemon Champions will offer three battle modes, each available in both Single Battle and Double Battle formats.
Ranked Battles pit players against trainers worldwide, with skill-based tiers determining matchups. For those looking for a more relaxed experience, Casual Battles provide the same global competition without the pressure of rankings. Private Battles allow friends and family to face off against each other in shared game rooms. The cross-platform release means players on different devices will be able to compete against each other
