Blizzard Entertainment has officially confirmed that Overwatch, previously known as Overwatch 2, launches on Nintendo Switch 2 starting April 14, 2026, arriving alongside the beginning of the game’s next major seasonal update, Season 2: Summit. The upgraded release brings notable technical improvements and fresh seasonal content, offering both returning players and newcomers a refreshed way to experience the team-based hero shooter on Nintendo’s latest hardware.
With improved performance targets and visual upgrades compared to the original Nintendo Switch version, the Nintendo Switch 2 edition represents a meaningful step forward for the portable console experience.
Nintendo Switch 2 Version Delivers Improved Performance and Portability

With the arrival of Overwatch on Nintendo Switch 2, Blizzard Entertainment is offering players a stronger handheld and hybrid console experience built around improved performance and presentation. The updated version supports enhanced visuals, higher fidelity audio, and gameplay running at up to 60 frames per second in both docked mode and handheld mode.
These upgrades make the Nintendo Switch 2 release a major improvement over the earlier Nintendo Switch version, allowing players to enjoy a cleaner, more responsive experience whether playing at home or on the go. Importantly, the platform continues to support cross-platform play, ensuring Nintendo Switch 2 players remain connected with friends across ecosystems including PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
New DPS Hero Sierra Leads Season 2: Summit

Headlining Season 2: Summit is the introduction of Sierra, a new Damage-role hero with strong narrative ties to the evolving Overwatch storyline. As Head of Security at Watchpoint: Grand Mesa, Sierra played a key role defending against Talon, and her arrival expands the ongoing conflict between major factions within the game’s universe.
Sierra’s story is also deeply personal. Her mother was the first test subject in the Soldier Enhancement Program, and Sierra joins Overwatch determined to uncover the truth behind figures such as Jack Morrison and Gabriel Reyes. Equipped with a rifle and a support drone named Dorothy, Sierra brings mobility, tactical flexibility, and personality-driven storytelling into the Season 2 roster update.
Her debut is accompanied by Operation: Grand Mesa, a limited-time three-week event running until May 4, where players can unlock lore chapters and earn rewards including voice lines, sprays, a player title, a name card, Battle Pass tier skips, and loot boxes.
Antarctic Peninsula Map Rework and Post-Match Accolades Return

Season 2: Summit also introduces a substantial rework for the Antarctic Peninsula map. Adjustments across key areas such as Icebreaker, Research Station, and Underground are designed to improve sightlines, flank routes, team push flow, and overall combat readability. These refinements aim to create smoother engagements and more strategic movement opportunities across matches.
Another returning feature is Post-Match Accolades, allowing players to recognize standout teammates and opponents after each match. Players can vote for contributions such as sportsmanship, clutch performance, or teamwork, with MVP selections receiving a spotlight moment during the end-of-match presentation.
Mythic Skins, Stadium Updates, and Gameplay System Changes

Cosmetic progression remains a major focus in Season 2: Summit, with the introduction of the Volted Overdrive Soldier: 76 Mythic Hero Skin and Genji’s Sumi-ichimonji Mythic Weapon Skin. Both Mythic-tier cosmetics feature multi-level customization systems with reactive effects, alternate animations, and visual upgrades that evolve as players progress through unlock tiers.

Meanwhile, Stadium mode continues evolving with gameplay adjustments and balance improvements. Ramattra joins the mode’s rotation, while Juno receives a rework intended to improve reliability and competitive performance. The addition of Lijiang Night Market as a new Control map further expands strategic variety in matches.
Seasonal competitive resets are also being replaced with a new decay system designed to create smoother transitions between ranking phases.
Sakura Collection, LE SSERAFIM Collaboration, and Spring Battle Pass Rewards

Season 2: Summit introduces multiple themed cosmetic events, including the Sakura Collection, available from April 14 to May 4. The collection features spring-inspired skins for heroes such as Hanzo, Genji, Freja, Juno, Emre, and Junker Queen, blending traditional cherry blossom aesthetics with the game’s hero designs.

Another major highlight is the returning collaboration between Overwatch and LE SSERAFIM, bringing back 15 Legendary-tier crossover skins from previous events. The collaboration runs from April 14 to April 27 and includes both individual cosmetic purchases and bundle options.

Alongside these events, the Season 2 Battle Pass introduces seasonal cosmetics, Legendary and Epic skins, in-game currencies, and up to 80 Mythic Prisms, which can be used to unlock Mythic-tier rewards such as the Volted Overdrive Soldier: 76 skin or Genji’s Sumi-ichimonji weapon.
Overwatch Expands Its Story Through WEBTOON Series Undivided

Outside of gameplay content, Blizzard Entertainment is continuing to expand the narrative scope of Overwatch through Overwatch: Undivided, a new weekly series published on WEBTOON. The storyline follows Sojourn as she responds to coordinated global attacks led by Talon under Vendetta’s command, while new heroes rise and alliances shift across the battlefield.
This ongoing story initiative provides another entry point for players interested in exploring the deeper lore behind the evolving world of Overwatch beyond in-game seasonal events.
With the launch of Overwatch on Nintendo Switch 2 and the arrival of Season 2: Summit, Blizzard Entertainment continues reinforcing its long-term live-service roadmap with meaningful gameplay updates, narrative expansions, and technical improvements tailored for players across all supported platforms.
