OPM / One Punch Man fans could look forward to a live-action film adaptation of the hit manga / anime series, now in development by Sony Pictures and Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner, writers of Venom. Avi Arad and Ari Arad of Arad Productions will be producing the film.
For the uninitiated, One Punch Man follows Saitama, a superhero caapable of defeaating nay opponent with a single punch. He’s now seeking a worthy opponent, growing bored in the lack of challenges as he fights against evil. Insiders are saying Sony is keen on the property due to its popularity, along with a possibility of adding another franchise.
OPM began as a webcomic, created in 2009 by Japanese artist ONE. 2012 saw it published in Shueisha’s Young Jump Next with illustrations by Yusuke Murata and ONE. It has since seen worldwide sales of over 30 million copies. Viz Media publishes the English edition, debuting the series in the US in 2015. The first and second volumes have made the New York Times manga bestsellers list, as well as getting nominated for an Eisner and a Harvey Award. The manga series has branched out into an anime series, video game and mobile game.
Malaysia’s theatrical release of the second Venom movie, Venom: Let There Be Carnage has been delayed to 25 June 2021, from its original October 2020 release date, if you wanted more of Rosenberg’s and Pinkner’s work. The original Venom movie showed in theaters in 2018. Will you be looking forward to this OPM film from Sony?
