Capcom has revealed that Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny, the beloved PlayStation 2 action game from 2002, is getting a remaster in 2025. The announcement for the remastered released came as a surprise during tthe Capcom Spotlight showcase event, following a presentation of the upcoming Onimusha: Way of the Sword.
The Onimusha 2 remaster will be available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam. While the game will be playable on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S through backward compatibility, native versions for current-generation consoles are not planned.
Following the pattern of 2019’s Onimusha: Warlords remaster, this new version appears to focus primarily on high-definition visual improvements rather than adding substantial new content. This announcement comes seven years after the Warlords remaster, which marked the series’ first appearance on modern platforms despite reportedly underwhelming sales.

The timing of this release is particularly significant as it precedes Onimusha: Way of the Sword, the franchise’s first new entry in 20 years, scheduled for 2026. This remaster could potentially signal Capcom’s renewed interest in the franchise, though the fate of other titles in the series – including Onimusha Tactics, Onimusha Blade Warriors, Demon Siege, and Dawn of Dreams – remains uncertain regarding potential modern releases.
