Three-Month Hiatus to Improve Quality and Pacing
Starting in January 2026, the anime will pause once the Egghead Island arc concludes. It will return in April with the Elbaph arc. This break gives the production team time to enhance animation quality and reduce filler.

As a result, fans can expect more polished action sequences and less recap content. Moreover, the hiatus allows the anime to stay closer to the manga. Previous breaks, such as the six-month hiatus from October 2024 to April 2025, improved animation quality and overall storytelling.
New Seasonal Format for Closer Manga Adaptation
From April 2026 onward, One Piece will adopt a seasonal schedule. The anime will produce two seasons each year, with a maximum of 26 episodes. Toei explains that this format will allow the series to “dive even deeper into the heart of the ONE PIECE world.”

Additionally, episodes may adapt one chapter per week, with some covering one-and-a-half chapters. This ensures the anime stays faithful to Eiichiro Oda’s story while maintaining consistent pacing. Fans can also enjoy exciting content during the breaks, such as Netflix’s live-action Season 2.
Industry-Wide Shift Toward Seasonal Anime
This change reflects a broader trend in anime production. Classic shonen like Naruto, Bleach, and One Piece used to air almost year-round. This approach often led to filler arcs and inconsistent animation. Modern anime focuses on seasonal releases, which improve quality and storytelling.

By adopting this system, One Piece joins other series in providing fans with a consistent, faithful, and engaging experience. It is a significant shift that marks the end of an era. For more updates on the hiatus be sure to follow Toei Animation on X.
