Square Enix and Dokidoki Grooveworks have shared new details about Octopath Traveler 0, showcasing three additional companions and several gameplay systems. Octopath Traveler 0 launches December 4, 2025, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Switch 2, PlayStation 4, Switch, and PC via Steam and Microsoft Store. The original soundtrack will release in December 2025 as a two-disc CD set.
A free demo is now available on all platforms with save data that transfers to the full game. Players can create their own character and play through the story’s opening with a three-hour time limit in the starting area.
New Companions and Returning Faces
Players will meet three new characters on their journey:
Delitia is a Hunter from the Sunlands deserts who takes pride in her clan. She’s searching for her older brother, who is set to become the next clan leader. Her ultimate technique, Gift of the Aqeeq, reduces enemy physical stats while boosting the same stats for allies.
Esperre works as an Apothecary and travels to help as many people as he can. He looks up to his father, who was also a skilled apothecary. His ultimate technique, Art of Healing, removes negative effects from allies and protects one ally from status ailments.
Goodwin is a Dancer who writes and performs plays filled with adventure. After being kicked out of an arts city due to creative disagreements, he tried performing at sea but ended up shipwrecked. He now calls himself the Shipwreck King. His ultimate technique, Song of Levin, deals lightning damage to all enemies and continues dealing damage at the start of each turn.
All eight main characters from the original Octopath Traveler will appear: Ophilia, Cyrus, Tressa, Olberic, Primrose, Alfyn, Therion, and H’aanit. Additionally, main story characters like Bargello, Richard, Alaune, Solon, Eltrix, and Rondo will join as companions. The game features over 30 travelers total.
New Gameplay Details
Path Actions let players interact with NPCs in different ways based on what those people value. Characters who value wealth can be approached through Purchase or Hire actions using money. Those who value power respond to Contend or Impress actions through combat. For people who value fame, Entreat and Recruit actions depend on the player’s influence level. Players can also Invite certain NPCs to relocate to their town.
Once the town reaches a certain development stage, players can unlock amity levels, which show how close the main character is with their companions. These levels increase by using the Inquire Further path action in Wishvale. Higher amity levels give better items and improve Resident Skills. Some characters may require special items like their favorite foods.
Party Chat features conversations between companions that happen based on story events and different situations. These chats show character personalities and relationships. Any missed conversations can be viewed later from the main menu.
Players can sail across the ocean freely once they have a ship. The ocean includes the Middlesea and the more dangerous Outersea, where uncharted islands and unknown creatures await. Sea exploration offers a different experience from land travel.
