Marvel Games and NetEase have announced their next major update for Marvel Rivals Season 3: The Abyss Awakens. This update adds a brand-new game mode, a map, and an in-game event along with multiple improvements to the system and several changes to character balancing. The update goes live on August 21, 2025 at 17:00 (GMT+8), without needing any server downtime.
New Game Mode – Resource Rumble
The highlight of this Marvel Rivals update is the new Resource Rumble, a fresh mode where teams will compete to unlock three resource points in any random order. Players must band together to capture, control, and gather resources, with the first team reaching the target score claiming victory. Resource Rumble will officially launch together with the Season 3: The Abyss Awakens update, and promising a new twist on a team-based strategy game.
New Map – Klyntar: Throne of Knull

This update will also introduce Klyntar: Throne of Knull, a dark new battleground located deep beneath the surface of planet Klyntar. The map ties into the Marvel Rivals’ lore, following the return of Phoenix to the battlefield and the awakening of Knull, creating a hostile arena where Hela the Queen in Black still battles against the lingering Phoenix Force.
New Event – Ancient Powers Awaken
Alongside the new map and mode, the Ancient Powers Awaken is an event kicking off on August 21. Players can earn XP by completing matches, levelling up to unlock exclusive rewards including a free Doctor Strange: Old Man Strange outfit. A Premium Edition of the pass offers additional cosmetics such as Iron Fist: Phoenix Fist and Venom: Reborn King in Black outfits. The event will continue running until September 12, 2025.

More Features and Changes
The development team has announced improvements to the matchmaking and ranking systems, with a dedicated video breaking down their explanation. Marvel Rivals now also features Discord Social SDK integration, enabling players across platforms to connect, chat and have a unified friend list.
Beyond new content, This update also brings the usual gameplay fixes and optimisation such as a performance fix (improved shader pre-loading and cache handling on PC), Hero character balancing, and even maps (fixed terrain exploits that causes clipping)
