Getting the chance to play a game that asks two people to think, move, and solve problems together is always interesting, and that is exactly what Age Twisters offers. Developed by Piccolo Studio and published by KRAFTON, this two-player co-op narrative adventure was playable at gamescom 2026, where a 30-minute hands-on session gave a good look at what the game is trying to do. It follows a grandfather and his granddaughter as they search for her missing mother, using a mechanic called Age Twisters that lets both characters shift between different stages of life. Each stage comes with its own abilities, and figuring out how and when to use them together turns out to be the real heart of the experience.
Growing Younger, Solving Puzzles Differently
During the demo, most of the time was spent using the Childhood abilities. The granddaughter carries a yo-yo that lets her swap positions with certain targets, while the grandfather has a frog tongue that does something similar by latching onto objects and swapping places with them. These abilities sound simple at first, but the level design finds a lot of ways to use them. In one case, a wall that could not be climbed over was solved by swapping positions with an object placed on the other side. In another, a gap too wide to jump across needed one player to reach the far side first so they could pull their partner over.

There was also a short chance to try the Adolescence abilities, where the granddaughter plays a drum kit and the grandfather plays a guitar. Their sound waves can slow down objects in range, including some dangerous projectiles, though the demo did not offer enough time to fully explore this mechanic. Game Director Alexis Corominas explained that the early parts of the game are meant to help players get familiar with each age’s abilities, while later sections will require mixing different ages depending on what a puzzle calls for. Because of this, switching ages is not only about changing what a character can do. Players also need to read the environment and talk to their partner about what steps to take next.
Co-op That Leaves Room for Chaos
One of the more noticeable parts of the demo was how rarely one player had to sit and wait for the other. Both players are usually moving and working toward the same goal at the same time, or actively helping each other keep going. Some handles, for example, can only be reached by one player, so that player has to get there first and use their ability to bring their partner across. This naturally makes communication a big part of playing.
Teamwork does not always go smoothly, though. There were moments where aiming at a teammate by accident sent them back to an earlier spot instead of the intended target, and these small mishaps often turned into funny moments as both players tried to work out what had just happened. According to Alexis, the team put a lot of thought into keeping both players aware of what their partner is doing at all times, and the camera was built around that idea so players feel like they are working together rather than simply playing next to each other.

Age does not just affect abilities, it also changes how characters interact with the world around them. Older character forms, for instance, may not be able to climb or jump down from certain objects. There were also sections where characters would slowly grow younger or older simply by being in a certain area. In one part of the demo, trying to cross an aging area while in an adult form led to the character aging until they died, and the actual solution was to become younger first before using that environmental effect to get across safely. It was a clear example of age being treated as a puzzle element and not just a set of powers.
Interestingly, Age Twisters is not planning to keep ramping up difficulty as the game goes on. Alexis mentioned that the challenge level shown in the demo is close to how difficult the game will get overall. Instead, the team wants to keep introducing new types of challenges, aiming to make players laugh, fail, and figure things out together rather than testing pure skill.

A Personal Inspiration Behind the Game
The idea for Age Twisters actually comes from something the developers experienced themselves. Game Director Jordi Ministral shared that the concept was partly inspired by the generation gap within the studio, where younger employees in their 20s and older team members often did not share the same references, whether it was an old movie or a newer joke. That gap eventually became the seed for a game built around the idea of generational differences. The art style grew out of a mix of Eastern and Western animation influences, including Pixar and French animation, along with inspiration from films, comics, and books, giving the grandfather and granddaughter relationship a sense of purpose beyond just being a story setup.

First Impressions
After the short demo, Age Twisters already shows a clear strength in how its co-op systems are built specifically around two players working together. The age-switching mechanic opens up different ways to solve problems, and the level design keeps both players thinking about their own position as well as their partner’s. There is still a lot left to see, especially how all four age forms will eventually combine and how later stages of the game will stay fresh. One story shared by the developers captures what they hope players take away from it. A nine-year-old boy who played the game with his mother wrote a school notebook review about how much fun he had, and his mother later told the team that the game gave them a real chance to bond. For the developers, that reaction reflects exactly what they set out to create, a game less about making co-op difficult and more about giving two people a reason to work things out together.
