Marvel Games and NetEase Games have announced comprehensive details for Season 2.5: Hellfire Gala, the upcoming content update for Marvel Rivals. The critically-acclaimed Super Hero Team-Based PVP Shooter will receive its mid-season expansion on May 30, introducing significant new content and gameplay features.
The update’s standout addition is Ultron, classified as a Strategist. Described as “the pinnacle of artificial lifeforms,” Ultron brings unique tactical capabilities to the battlefield through his ability to command automated drone armies. This mechanic allows players to deploy AI-controlled units that follow Ultron’s commands, potentially shifting battle dynamics through numerical superiority.
In addition, Ultron’s inclusion ties directly into the season’s narrative, which centers around the character’s assault on the Hellfire Gala and subsequent theft of Cerebro technology.
New Map and Expanded Team-Up System
The new Arakko map represents a departure from previous environments, featuring a mechanized landscape that reflects Ultron’s influence. The map’s design supports the season’s overarching storyline of heroes regrouping to reclaim the transformed territory.
Season 2.5 implements substantial changes to Marvel Rivals’ Team-Up Ability system. The update adds six new Team-Up Abilities while removing four existing ones, with additional adjustments to team composition requirements. According to the development team, over 50% of Team-Up Abilities have been modified since the game’s initial launch. Notably, the update includes the player-requested “Jeff-nado” Team-Up Ability.
Beginning June 6, players will have access to “Ultron’s Battle Matrix Protocol,” a six-player experimental mode that allows for custom hero lineups and enhanced character builds. Furthermore, this mode enables players to modify hero statistics and abilities beyond standard parameters, representing what developers term an experiment in fulfilling “players’ fantasies of Marvel Super Heroes and Super Villains.” Additionally, alongside the new content in Marvel Rivals, Season 2.5 will include standard patch notes and hero balance adjustments.
