Kalpa of Universe to begin closed beta test

Kalpa of Universe will begin its closed beta test on 27 January 2021. The title from ZLONGAME, whom you might recognize from Langrisser Mobile. English speaking readers will probably not recognize the 天地劫 series of games as its known, the first game of which came out back in 1993. The last game of the series was released in 2002 for PC, and has since laid dormant until this mobile title.

Pre-download of Kalpa of Universe will be available on 26 January before the closed beta test itself commences on 27 January. Its TapTap page says downloads and registration of accounts will end 29 January, but doesn’t specify if the test itself will also end on that day. As you might expect, game data will be wiped once the test ends.

The very brief description of the game says it will “reinterpret the story” presumably to better suit its mobile adaptation, including the original three games of the series as well as the addition of new chapters. Going by some gameplay videos, the game is basically a top-down, turn based, grid based tactical RPG. As usual for a free to play title, it also has gacha.

If the game gets enough interest from an international audience, we might see this pretty old series revitalized and localized, but who knows?
