Softstar Entertainment, best known for the Sword and Fairy RPG series, is venturing into darker territory with its newest project. The studio revealed Junji Ito Maniac: An Infinite Gaol, a first-person survival horror game inspired by the unsettling works of legendary manga creator Junji Ito. It will launch on PC via Steam, although the release date remains unconfirmed.

A New Chapter in Junji Ito Horror
This title marks the first standalone video game directly adapted from Ito’s creations. Softstar is developing it under Ito’s personal supervision, which ensures a faithful recreation of his vision. The game combines scenarios from the anime anthology Junji Ito Maniac: Japanese Tales of the Macabre into a psychological horror story set inside a foreboding Western-style mansion.

Players take on the role of a university student caught in a looping nightmare. Equipped only with a broken phone and fragments of memory, they must face hallucinations, twisted architecture, and ghostly figures. Each cycle forces them to uncover the truth while resisting the mansion’s overwhelming madness.
Authentic Junji Ito Atmosphere
Unlike typical action-heavy horror titles, An Infinite Gaol focuses on tension and psychological unease. Players will confront shifting realities, ominous time loops, and dread-filled corridors that embody Ito’s grotesque visual style. Every distorted detail aims to disturb and immerse, keeping the player constantly on edge.

Although the release window is still unknown, fans can already wishlist the game on Steam. They can also follow development updates there, as Softstar and Ito bring this terrifying vision to life. With Ito directly involved, the project promises to deliver one of the most faithful adaptations of his horror yet. For more updates, visit Softstar’s official website.
