In an unexpected crossover between gaming and home decor, IKEA Atlanta hosted its first-ever Tekken 8 tournament on the showroom floor. The event promoted IKEA’s gaming furniture line and brought local fighting game fans together for a unique in-store battle.
IKEA Becomes a Real-Life Battleground
Held on October 28, 2025, the “Brännboll Battle” transformed IKEA’s Atlanta store into a Tekken 8 arena. The idea came from an IKEA employee and fighting game fan who wanted to combine work and passion. Therefore, they partnered with local organization 4o4 Esports to provide consoles and monitors for the tournament.
Players used IKEA’s gaming chairs and desks, letting them experience the comfort and functionality firsthand. Meanwhile, shoppers enjoyed watching the matches unfold throughout the store.
Community Collaboration and Creative Prizes
Twelve players joined the bracket, competing for prizes that combined gaming flair with IKEA products. The winner received a Huvudspelare desk and chair set worth $429. Additionally, second and third place earned $150 and $75 gift cards. All three finalists also won passes to MomoCon 2026.

Brandon Lomax, IKEA’s Market Manager for Atlanta, praised the idea as a creative way to engage with the gaming community. He explained that the event highlighted how IKEA furniture meets gamers’ needs — from ergonomic setups to smart lighting and storage. “The feedback was overwhelmingly positive,” Lomax said. “It’s inspiring to see our coworkers take initiative and engage with customers in unexpected ways.”
From Wild Stages to Real-World Venues
The “Brännboll Battle” fits perfectly with the fighting game community’s creative spirit. Over the years, tournaments have popped up in unusual locations — from raves and heated “sweat rooms” to even bathrooms for Melty Blood matches. Compared to those, IKEA’s showroom was a major upgrade.
Although the event was initially a one-time experiment, IKEA Atlanta plans to host more gaming competitions in the future. If player excitement is any sign, IKEA may have discovered a new type of battleground — one filled with combos, cheers, and well-arranged furniture. Tekken 8 is currently available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.
