Wildlight Entertainment has officially launched Highguard, its free-to-play player-versus-player raid shooter, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. From day one, the game supports full cross-play, allowing players on different platforms to compete and cooperate without restrictions.

Following its debut at The Game Awards, Highguard enters the market with high expectations. The studio presents the launch not as a one-off release, but as the beginning of a long-term competitive ecosystem designed to grow over time.

Central to Highguard’s design is the Shieldbreaker, a powerful weapon required to breach enemy defenses. As magical storms move across the map, teams converge on contested zones to claim it. Once secured, the Shieldbreaker must be transported to an opposing base, triggering a full-scale raid.

However, failure does not reset the match. Instead, defenses recover, new Shieldbreakers appear elsewhere, and combat intensifies. Consequently, loot improves, weapons grow stronger, and strategies must evolve. This cycle continues until one base finally falls, bringing the match to a close.

Variety, Gunplay, and Long-Term Support

Highguard places gunplay at the center of its experience. While magic and special tools play an important role, firearms remain the primary means of combat. This approach ensures that moment-to-moment shooting stays responsive and skill-driven.

At launch, the game offers multiple large-scale maps, distinct bases, playable Wardens, mounts, weapons, and raid tools. Moreover, Wildlight Entertainment has already outlined an ambitious live-service plan. The game will receive episodic updates throughout 2026, with new content arriving on a regular schedule.

Crucially, all core gameplay additions will remain free. Meanwhile, monetization focuses strictly on cosmetic items, with no loot boxes or random rewards. Because of this, progression and competitive balance remain unaffected by purchases.
