PS Plus subscribers were treated to a surprise drop of Helldivers 2 today ahead of the rest of the monthly titles’ release date on August 18. The drop coincided with the game’s latest update, Devoid of Liberty, which introduces horrific new enemy types, missions, and community challenges.
The update brings players towards the void, introducing a more nightmare-ish setting, centering around the Illuminate faction.
One of the update’s highlights is definitely the duo of mutated enemies, the wretch and the crusher, who both can pass as monstrosities you’ll find in USG Ishimura.

Wretches are extremely fast and smart, often avoiding the players’ line of fire while also posing a challenge to kill due to their smaller heads. Meanwhile, crushers are tank-like bullet-sponge enemies that can kill Helldivers in just a few hits.
The game’s PS Plus launch is also tied to a community challenge event where four Helldivers-themed PlayStation avatars are up for grabs. Players would only have to eliminate an accumulated number of 500 million kills before August 18.

Devoid of Liberty also brings a handful of game improvements, such as Super Earth Armed Forces (SEAF) now joining the fight to help players, arriving via dropships. Furthermore, the maximum level cap is now extended to 300.
Aside from the update, today also marked the release of the Castellan’s Creed Legendary Warbond, which is the game’s official crossover with Warhammer 40,000. With this collab, players can use iconic Astra Militarum Cadian Kasrkin-inspired gear, weapons, and armor.
Helldivers 2 can now be enjoyed with its latest patches through the PS Plus Essential and Extra memberships, with titles like Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 and Vampire Survivors set to follow on August 18. Will you be joining the fight for democracy?
