Paris-based game developer Spiders, best known for GreedFall, Steelrising, and GreedFall: The Dying World, has officially announced that it will be shutting down after 18 years in the industry.
The studio confirmed that it has entered liquidation, marking the end of its operations as a game developer under parent company Nacon.
Spiders Confirms Studio Closure After Liquidation

In an official statement, Spiders explained that after a prolonged period without clear updates on its situation, it had finally received confirmation that the studio would be liquidated. This means the company will cease all operations immediately.
The developer stated that while it had hoped to continue its work, the decision has effectively brought the decision for Spiders to shut down.
Founded in 2008, Spiders had been operating for nearly two decades, building a reputation for narrative-driven role-playing games with strong world-building elements.
GreedFall DLC Still Planned for Release

Despite the closure, fans of GreedFall: The Dying World will still see the planned downloadable content released. According to the studio, the upcoming DLC will be handled and published by Nacon.
After that release, however, no further support or development from Spiders will continue.
The studio’s message made it clear that ongoing communication and support will also end, advising players to contact Nacon directly for any future game-related issues.
Legacy of GreedFall and Steelrising

Over the years, Spiders became known for creating AA role-playing games with ambitious storytelling and distinctive settings. Titles such as GreedFall, which explored colonial fantasy themes, and Steelrising, set in an alternate-history Paris, helped define the studio’s identity.
While often working with limited budgets compared to larger AAA studios, Spiders earned recognition for its creative world design and narrative focus.
End of an Era for a French RPG Studio

The closure of Spiders marks the end of one of France’s most notable independent RPG developers. Its partnership with publisher Nacon played a key role in delivering its recent titles, but ultimately was not enough to sustain long-term operations.
For fans, the announcement closes the chapter on a studio that consistently attempted to carve out its own space in the role-playing genre.
Final Words From the Developer
In its farewell message, Spiders thanked its community for years of support and acknowledged the difficult nature of the announcement. The studio confirmed that all remaining operations would cease immediately following the liquidation decision.
With its closure, Spiders leaves behind a catalog of unique RPG experiences that helped shape its identity in the modern gaming landscape.
