Rockstar Games has announced that pre-orders for Grand Theft Auto VI will open on June 25 across digital storefronts and select retailers, alongside the reveal of the game’s official cover art. The game is set to launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series on November 19. For context, digital platform holders generally only allow pre-orders to open when a title is less than a year away from its release date, making June 25 a natural window for pre-orders to go live given the launch date.

The road to this announcement has been anything but straightforward. GTA VI was first confirmed by Rockstar back in 2022 but wasn’t formally shown to the public until late 2023. That first trailer ended with a 2025 release target, which Take-Two later narrowed down to Fall 2025. The game then slipped to May 26, 2026, and was delayed again in November 2025 to its current date of November 19.
Pre-order speculation had also been running hot in the months leading up to this announcement. Back in May, a YouTuber named Frogboyx1Gaming shared an email that appeared to come from Best Buy, stating that a GTA VI pre-order campaign for physical copies would run from May 18 to 21, with affiliates set to earn a 5% cut per sale. That window came and went without anything happening, pointing to the email being sent out by mistake.
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick addressed the game’s status in May as well, reaffirming the November release plan and noting that marketing for the game would pick up over the summer. He also acknowledged that the current release date puts the game roughly 18 months behind its original launch window. With pre-orders now officially opening June and a firm release date on the books, the long wait for GTA VI is entering its final stretch.
