Overseas Genshin Impact players have taken their frustration with the game’s free currency situation to an unusual place: the Google Maps listing of HoYoverse’s office. The dispute centers on Primogems, the in-game currency used to pull for new characters. Players, particularly those who spend no real money on the game, have raised concerns that the amount of free Primogems given out has gone down compared to how frequently new characters are being released.
According to a post from Japanese X (formerly Twitter) user @tokeisaan, the situation escalated in stages. Players first brought their complaints to HoYoverse’s official Discord server, but many reportedly got banned for doing so. They then turned to Discord feedback and app store reviews, but felt their concerns were being ignored. That led to an organized campaign to leave low-star ratings on HoYoverse’s office Google Maps page, which pushed the rating down to 2.6 stars.

Not everyone is sympathetic to the campaign. Another Japanese X user, pointed out that most of the people involved in the protests are free-to-play players, suggesting that catering to that group does not bring in revenue for the company. The user argued that the most effective form of protest would simply be to stop playing, as a drop in the player base would have a more direct impact on the developers.
これ面白いのが運動に参加している人の殆どが無課金勢なんだよね、理不尽クレーマー(無課金)の機嫌取っても利益にならんのよ

The broader debate around the game’s economy has also been playing out on Reddit. A post from user SwiftSlayAR outlines several talking points that have been circulating in the community, including the argument that newer characters are increasingly dependent on other limited characters to function at their best, that certain enemy mechanics seem designed to push players toward pulling recent units, and that the overall team-building system is beginning to feel more rigid and predetermined.
The post also pushes back on some of these concerns, noting that newer characters still offer strong enough performance even without their ideal teammates to clear the game’s hardest content, and that free-to-play players who manage their pulls carefully can still progress through endgame without spending money.
As of now, HoYoverse has not made any public statement in response to the campaign or the community’s concerns.
