Square Enix announced that FFVIIR / Final Fantasy VII Remake shipments and digital sales exceeded 3.5 million units, the number rising to over four million following its 10 April release. The game has received plenty of glowing reviews from critics across the globe, us included.

Rebuilt from the ground up, utilizing the best of modern gaming technology, FFVIIR is a reimagining of the ironic, original game that re-defined the RPG genre. The first game in the project takes place in the eclectic and sprawling city of Midgar, presenting a fully standalone gaming experience that dives deeper into the iconic characters and the world more than ever before. In a world where the Shinra Electric Power Company, a shadowy corporation, controls the plant’s very life force, Cloud Strife, former member of Shinra’s elite SOLDIER unit, becomes a mercenary and lends his aid to the underground resistance group “Avalanche” to fight Shinra’s oppressive force.

By exploiting this resource to power their reactors, the Shinra Electric Power Company has all but seized control of the entire world. A ragtag group of idealists, known as Avalanche, are one of the last bastions of resistance.

Cloud, an elite SOLDIER operator turned mercenary, takes part in an Avalanche operation to destroy Mako Reactor 1 in the city of Midgar.
