Xbox Game Studios and developer Playground Games have officially delayed Fable from its planned fall 2026 release to February 2027. The game is set to launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PC, and Game Pass.

Xbox chief content officer Mat Booty addressed the delay on the Official Xbox Podcast, saying the decision came down to giving the game its own space in the release calendar. “The game is in great shape. The team feels really good. We’re excited about where the game is. We want to make sure that that game has a window all to its own, so we are going to move it from this fall to February,” Booty said.

In a post on its official social media account, Xbox pointed to how packed the 2026 lineup already is. The company listed titles like Halo: Campaign Evolved, Gears of War: E-Day, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4, Control Resonant, Star Wars: Galactic Racer, and Grand Theft Auto VI as part of an already busy year. “In order to plan our game launches through the holidays, in a way that works best for players, we’re moving Fable to February 2027 so it can have the dedicated moment it deserves,” Xbox wrote.

Despite the delay, Booty was clear that the game’s development is on solid ground. “The team feels really good. We’re excited about where the game is. We want to make sure that the game has a window all to its own.”

Fans won’t have to wait long for new footage. Booty confirmed that Fable will be featured at the Xbox Games Showcase 2026, set for June 7. “We will be seeing more of it in Xbox Games Showcase 2026. So we’re going to have plenty for people to see. It really is coming together well,” he said.
