Bungie announced that their upcoming game Marathon will not meet its planned September 23rd release date. The shooter is now delayed indefinitely, with a new release date to be shared later this fall.
The delay comes after the game’s Alpha test gave Bungie a chance to hear from players directly. In their official statement, the development team said they received strong feedback from the gaming community through social media and Discord. They decided they need more time to make Marathon the game that matches what players are looking for.

The Alpha test helped Bungie figure out what makes Marathon special – surviving under pressure, mystery and story elements, challenging endgame content, and the type of first-person shooting combat that Bungie is known for. The team wants to use this extra time to create a more intense, high-stakes gaming experience.
During the delay period, Bungie plans to continue closed testing with players who took part in the Alpha. They will roll out gameplay updates and test new features as they develop them.
The company has outlined three main areas they want to improve:
Better Survival Gameplay: Bungie wants to make the computer-controlled enemies more challenging and interesting to fight. They also plan to make each game run more rewarding by adding new types of loot and random events. Combat will become more tense and require more strategy.
Stronger Marathon Universe: The team is working on better graphics and visual quality. They want to add more story content and environmental details that players can discover and interact with. The game will have a darker tone that connects better with the original Marathon games from the 1990s.
More Social Features: Bungie is improving the experience for players who want to play alone or with just one friend. They are also adding proximity chat, which lets players talk to others who are nearby in the game world.

Marathon is Bungie’s return to the sci-fi universe they created in the 1990s, but this new version is an extraction shooter rather than a story-driven single-player game. Players compete to gather resources and escape from dangerous areas while fighting both computer enemies and other players.
