Today’s PlayStation State of Play delivered an unexpected surprise with the announcement of Until Dawn 2, the latest sequel in the interactive horror series that will launch exclusively for PlayStation 5 in 2027. While the franchise was previously associated with Supermassive Games, development of the sequel is now being handled by Firesprite Games.
Although gameplay details remain limited, the announcement marks the return of a franchise renowned for its branching narrative paths and choices that can determine the life or death of every character. The reveal also included a glimpse of in-game footage that looked impressive from a presentation standpoint. This time, the atmosphere feels distinctly different, shifting its focus to a tropical setting, which is quite a stark contrast to the snow-covered environment of the original game.
The story of Until Dawn 2 centers on a group of ambitious ghost hunters seeking fame through viral online content. They decide to investigate a remote island known for its terrifying legends involving a mysterious woman and a series of supernatural phenomena. However, what initially appears to be an opportunity to create a social media sensation gradually descends into a nightmare as the stories begin to manifest in the real world.
Like its predecessor, players will have complete control over the fate of the characters through a variety of crucial decisions made throughout the story. Every choice can affect character relationships, alter the course of events, and ultimately determine who survives. With its tense horror atmosphere and ever-present supernatural threats, Until Dawn 2 promises a suspenseful experience where every decision carries real consequences.
