After more than two decades at Bungie, CEO Pete Parsons is stepping down. Meanwhile, longtime Destiny 2 general manager Justin Truman will take over as the new studio head.
Parsons Passes the Torch

Parsons shared the news in a heartfelt message to the Bungie community. “Today marks the right time for a new beginning,” he wrote. “The future of Bungie will be in the hands of a new generation of leaders, and I am thrilled to announce that Justin Truman will step into leadership as Bungie’s new Studio Head.”
He praised Truman’s contributions across engineering, production, and design. Furthermore, Parsons highlighted Truman’s work as General Manager for Destiny 2 and Chief Development Officer, noting that he “has been instrumental in bringing some of the most memorable moments in Bungie’s history to life.”
Truman on Taking the Helm
Truman expressed excitement about his new role. “I am committed to supporting and working alongside every member of the team here as we continue pouring our hearts and souls into these worlds,” he said.

In addition, he confirmed that Bungie is currently focusing on both Marathon and Destiny. He promised to share updates on both later this year. “Worlds that we love, and that we hope have been worth your time and your passion,” Truman added.
Reflecting on Parsons’ Legacy
Parsons has led Bungie since 2015, guiding the studio through major milestones. Under his leadership, Bungie launched a bold new chapter for Destiny, built an independent live operations team, and joined the Sony Interactive Entertainment family.

“To the best, most passionate community in gaming: it has been a privilege to serve you,” Parsons wrote. “As for me, I’ll be second star to the right and straight on till morning.”
Truman’s Journey at Bungie
Truman has spent 15 years at Bungie, holding multiple roles from engineer to designer to producer. He contributed to original Destiny systems, designed endgame content for Destiny 2, and led Bungie’s talent strategy. Additionally, he has been helping the Marathon team develop their next world.

He reflected on learning from both successes and missteps. “When we’re at our best—we create those worlds alongside you, our player community, and build something that matters,” Truman wrote.
Looking Ahead

With Truman now at the helm, Bungie enters a new era while continuing work on fan-favorite titles. Both Destiny and Marathon remain top priorities. As a result, players can expect more news later this year.
