2K and Gearbox Software have announced that Version 1.8, a major update for Borderlands 4, is landing on June 25. The update brings a mix of free and paid content, including a new story DLC, the game’s first endgame Takedown raid, cross-platform save support, and a reveal of what’s coming later in 2026.
Starting with the paid side of things, Bounty Pack 3 is titled “A Zane to Kill For” and takes players into a neon-noir arcade mystery. The setup involves the murder of Zane’s Digi-Clone backup, and Vault Hunters are tasked with figuring out who did it. The mission is repeatable and features one new boss and two mini-bosses as players dig through clues and track down the culprit.
Starting with Bounty Pack 3, the DLC is being split into two separate pieces that can be bought individually. The first is the core story content and gear, and the second is Vault Card 3, which lets players earn 24 arcade-themed cosmetics and four pieces of rerollable gear through normal gameplay. Players who already own the Deluxe or Super Deluxe Edition get both as part of their included bundles, but those buying separately can now choose one or the other.
On the free side, Version 1.8 also introduces the Takedown at Hadron Abyss, which is Borderlands 4’s first Takedown raid and is available to all players at no cost. It unlocks through any major hub Raid Board once the main campaign is finished. The raid takes place in a new area called Hadron Abyss, a hidden underwater research station overrun with mutated creatures and aquatic enemies. Players fight through the zone and its mobs before facing a mid-boss and eventually the final boss, the Child of Terramorphous. Enemy difficulty scales to how many players are in the party, and those looking for a bigger challenge can turn on Mayhem levels or Hardcore mode, which gives everyone just one life for the entire run. In co-op, if any one player goes down in Hardcore, the whole team has to restart.

Completing the raid comes with solid rewards: one new Pearlescent weapon, nine new Legendary gear pieces, and five new Class Mods. A sixth Class Mod will be added to the loot pool later in Q3 2026 when the next Vault Hunter joins the game through Story Pack 2.
Version 1.8 also rolls out Cross-Platform Saves, letting players carry their progress across any platform where they own Borderlands 4. The feature works through SHiFT, though SHiFT rewards like Golden Keys stay tied to the platform where they were originally redeemed.
