Electronic Arts has officially announced Battlefield REDSEC, a new free-to-play battle royale set in the world of Battlefield 6. The mode launches globally on October 28, 2025, across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC. A gameplay reveal trailer will premiere on the same day at 8:00 a.m. PT / 11:00 p.m. MYT, coinciding with the launch of Battlefield 6 Season 1.
A Standalone Battle Royale Experience
Developed by Ripple Effect Studios, REDSEC is short for Redacted Sector and marks Battlefield’s first entry into the free-to-play battle royale genre. The mode will be available separately from the premium Battlefield 6 experience, allowing new players to join the fight without purchase.
The map is reportedly inspired by California, U.S., featuring large-scale battles and tense survival gameplay. Its unique “Redacted Sector” zone system is said to be extremely lethal, instantly eliminating anyone who touches it. This design adds constant pressure, keeping every encounter high-stakes and unpredictable.
Season 1 Launch and Twitch Drops
The release of REDSEC coincides with the start of Season 1 for Battlefield 6, which adds a new map, weapons, and cosmetics to the main game. To celebrate, EA is hosting a Twitch Drops campaign where players can earn exclusive REDSEC-themed rewards by watching official streams during launch week.
EA shared in its announcement:
“To celebrate the launch of our free-to-play experience Battlefield REDSEC, available now alongside Season 1 of Battlefield 6, we’re bringing back our Twitch Drop Campaign.”
A Long-Awaited Reveal
Rumors of a new Battlefield battle royale have circulated since 2024. Early beta testers from Battlefield Labs praised REDSEC’s fast-paced action and realistic gunplay. EA remained silent until now, choosing to surprise players with this major reveal.
The official gameplay trailer will go live later today at 11:00 p.m. MYT, offering a first look at REDSEC’s chaotic firefights and squad-based tactics.
