Apple has officially announced its latest smartphone lineup, including the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max. The new devices bring several notable upgrades, with a strong emphasis on artificial intelligence and camera capabilities.
A standout feature across the entire iPhone 16 range is the new Camera Control button. This dedicated hardware button allows users to quickly access and control the camera, as well as interact with the new Visual Intelligence feature. Visual Intelligence, powered by Apple’s AI technology, enables users to learn more about their surroundings using the device’s camera.
The Pro models feature larger displays than ever before, with the iPhone 16 Pro sporting a 6.3-inch screen and the Pro Max boasting a 6.9-inch display. Both Pro variants come with ultra-thin bezels to maximize screen real estate. Apple equips the Pro models with the new A18 Pro chip, which they claim offers improved performance for on-device AI processing and gaming. The company has also redesigned the chassis with a graphite-clad aluminum substructure, enhancing thermal efficiency by 20%.
Camera improvements are significant in the Pro models. Both feature a 48MP Fusion Camera with 2x digital telephoto zoom and a new 48MP ultrawide camera. The devices can now record 4K video at 120 frames per second, enabling a new Cinematic slow-motion mode. The iPhone 16 Pro also gains the 5x tetraprism zoom feature previously exclusive to the Pro Max.
Apple promises better battery life across the board, with larger batteries in all models. The company states these will offer the best battery life of any iPhone to date. The Pro model starts at $999, while the Pro Max begins at $1,199. Both will be available in four colors: Black Titanium, White Titanium, Natural Titanium, and the new Desert Titanium. The devices are set to go on sale on September 20.
While many AI features will be available at launch, the Visual Intelligence feature is scheduled for release later this year. Apple Intelligence, the company’s AI platform, will enter public beta in October.
