Blizzard have announced that upcoming sequels to their big titles, Diablo IV and Overwatch 2 would not be releasing this year, much to the chagrin of eager fans. However, they’ve said this year would see more “remastered” content on the way.

In a financial call talking about their Q4 2020, Activision Blizzard chief financial officer and president of emerging businesses Dennis M. Durkin clarified that the two titles would not ship in 2021.

Interestingly enough, that same call provided more information on Diablo Immortal, the mobile Diablo game announced alongside Diablo IV. According to Activision Blizzard, they’re expecting that to launch at the end of the year, though no concrete dates were given.

“while Diablo Immortal is progressing well and we anticipate its launch later this year, we don’t have any material contribution from the title in our outlook presently”, Durkin says.

Overwatch 2 in particular is a hotly anticipated title, as it was the first big new IP out of Blizzard outside of its big 3 (Warcraft, Starcraft, Diablo). Blizzard had also said they wouldn’t put out new heroes until Overwatch 2’s release, leading the fans to only get more fervent in their want for the sequel-slash-expansion for the original hero based shooter, unaware of Blizzard’s previous reputation for delaying games.

This news might sour fans on the upcoming BlizzConline, the virtual version of Blizzard’s annual convention. Naturally, most big Blizzard-related news are saved for this event, so it makes sense that they’d look there for the big reveal of Diablo IV and Overwatch 2’s release date.
