Longtime BioWare producer Mark Darrah says he does not expect another Dragon Age game to be made, pointing to how EA handles pitches for games based on existing franchises. Darrah, who spent 23 years at BioWare and served as executive producer on the Dragon Age series, shared his thoughts in an interview with FRVR. He explained that Dragon Age has likely taken a back seat while BioWare focuses on its next Mass Effect title, and suggested the series could remain inactive going forward given how EA typically manages ownership of its franchises.
According to Darrah, several people within EA often believe they have a claim over certain IPs, which can make it difficult for anyone to move forward with a pitch. “I have no concept of who could, would, possibly pitch [a new Dragon Age] at EA,” he said.
“EA owns a frightening number of IPs that are dormant.”

He went on to describe what tends to happen when someone tries to develop a game using an existing IP. “What I’ve heard is if you go and decide you’re going to make a [game based on an IP]… the instant you’re about to start, suddenly like three different people who think they control it come out of the woodwork and essentially rip you apart and chew you up and spit you out.”
Darrah added that, in his view, the only realistic source for a new Dragon Age pitch would be BioWare itself, but said he isn’t sure who there would take on that role. He also suggested that if someone else within EA tried to pitch a new entry, people at BioWare might resist the idea. “I suspect that it wouldn’t happen for a variety of reasons,” he said.
The most recent entry in the series, Dragon Age: The Veilguard, was released in 2024, marking the first new Dragon Age game in a decade following 2014’s Dragon Age: Inquisition.
