Phoenix Cyclops Confirmed as First Year 1 DLC Fighter for Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls

Sony Interactive Entertainment and Arc System Works have released the opening movie for their upcoming four-versus-four tag fighting game, Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, and confirmed that Phoenix Cyclops will be the game’s first Year 1 DLC character.

Phoenix Cyclops will be voiced by Ray Chase in the English version and is set to launch this fall. Arc System Works producer Takeshi Yamanaka spoke about the character, noting that Cyclops is one of Marvel’s most iconic X-Men leaders. He explained that this version of Cyclops draws inspiration from his Phoenix Five incarnation from Avengers vs. X-Men, giving him a new look powered by the cosmic energy of the Phoenix Force. Yamanaka added that alongside his signature Optic Blasts and strong hand-to-hand combat skills, this Cyclops also wields the Phoenix Force, promising a more intense fighting style. He mentioned that more details on how these abilities will work in gameplay will be shared in future updates.

The opening movie description says it blends the intensity of classic fighting game intros with the style, heart, and energy of iconic early-2000s anime openings, aiming to set the stage for the battles ahead. The movie was produced by Japanese animation studio Sanzigen and directed by Daisuke Suzuki. Its original theme song, “Stronger as One,” features vocalists Keiko Terada of SHOW-YA and mayu of NEMOPHILA, with lyrics written by Kanata Okajima and music composed and arranged by MEG of MEGMETAL.

The game will also include a crossover with Insomniac Games’ Marvel’s Wolverine, arriving in the form of an in-game costume, as announced earlier. Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls is scheduled to release on PlayStation 5 and PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store on August 6.
