Final Fantasy XIV Mobile will stop running in China this fall, and the version once planned for the rest of the world has been called off entirely. LightSpeed Studios, the developer behind the mobile spinoff, announced that the Chinese edition on iOS and Android will end service on September 30, 2026. The company also confirmed the global version is no longer in development. The game first launched in China on June 19, 2025, with a global release originally expected to follow. That global rollout will no longer happen.
In an official announcement, the game’s operations team explained that Tencent and Square Enix agreed to end their licensing deal for the Chinese edition following changes in business operations and the market. The two companies reached the decision through what the announcement called amicable negotiation.
The shutdown will happen in stages. In-game top-ups and new account registrations were already suspended on July 17, 2026. The servers and official website will fully close at 11:00 a.m. (UTC+8) on September 30, 2026, after which players will no longer be able to log in. The game’s forums and customer support channels will follow shortly after, shutting down on October 15, 2026.
Once the servers go offline, player data connected to accounts registered in mainland China, including character information and other related data, will be deleted in line with China’s Personal Information Protection Law. This will not apply to any data covered by separate legal requirements or existing agreements between Tencent and its users.
