The Computer Entertainment Supplier’s Association (CESA) has officially opened public voting for the Japan Game Awards 2026 “Games of the Year Division” today, Friday, June 12. Voting will remain open until Friday, July 17, 2026, at 23:59 JST.
The division recognizes standout games that best represent the year in gaming. Any computer entertainment software released in Japan between June 1, 2025, and May 31, 2026 is eligible, covering all platforms including home consoles, handhelds, PCs, and smartphones. Japanese localized versions of overseas titles also qualify.
Voting is open to anyone regardless of age, gender, nationality, or gaming experience, and voters do not need to own the game they are voting for. Each person is limited to one vote for one title. Votes can be submitted through the official Japan Game Awards website or by mailing a postcard to the Japan Game Awards Office in Tokyo.
After the public voting period closes, the Japan Game Awards Selection Committee will review submissions to determine the winners of the Grand Award, Awards for Excellence, and other categories.

Those who vote will also be entered into a prize lottery open to residents of Japan. Prizes include a PlayStation 5 Pro, Nintendo Switch 2 (Japan-exclusive model), and Xbox Series X, with three units available per console. Additional prizes include Apple or Google Play Gift Cards worth 10,000 JPY each, winning game software or related merchandise, Tokyo Game Show 2026 admission tickets valid for any one public day from September 19 to 21, and exclusive invitations to the awards ceremony. Around 350 winners in total will be selected across all prize categories.
The awards ceremony for both the “Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Award” and the “Games of the Year Division” is scheduled for Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at Hulic Hall Tokyo in Yurakucho, starting at 18:00 JST. The event is organized by CESA, and further details are available on the official website.
