Developer 11 bit studios has officially announced Frostpunk 2: Breach of Trust, the first major downloadable content expansion for Frostpunk 2. The new story-driven DLC is scheduled to launch on June 23 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC platforms including Steam, Epic Games Store, and GOG.
The expansion introduces a new narrative arc centered around a dangerous political and environmental crisis in the city of New Edinburgh, expanding the game’s signature survival strategy gameplay with fresh mechanics, factions, and high-stakes decisions.
A New Story Arc Set in New Edinburgh

Breach of Trust takes players to New Edinburgh, a city built near a volatile volcano destabilised by excessive geothermal energy usage to power its Generator. The situation quickly escalates into a full-scale crisis as tremors intensify and ash clouds threaten the city’s survival.
With the Old Captain removed from leadership, players step into the role of First Citizen at a time when public confidence is fragile and tensions are rising. A new Vote of Trust mechanic introduces a dynamic approval system that regularly measures the population’s confidence in leadership decisions, adding a fresh layer of political pressure to the experience.

As unrest spreads and volcanic activity worsens, survival may depend on cooperation with a nearby colony located on a frozen lake. Whether players choose diplomacy, exploitation, or conquest will shape the future of both settlements.
New Environmental Threats and Gameplay Systems

One of the most significant additions in Breach of Trust is the introduction of new environmental hazards that directly affect gameplay strategy. The Tremors system creates unpredictable disruptions throughout the city, while the Volcano Night mechanic introduces periods of extreme danger tied to volcanic activity.
These hazards force players to rethink how they manage infrastructure, maintain stability, and respond to emergencies under pressure. Combined with the new political oversight system, the expansion reinforces Frostpunk 2’s focus on leadership under crisis conditions.
The DLC also adds several new custom gameplay mechanics and narrative events designed to deepen the strategic complexity of city management while expanding the game’s branching story possibilities.
New Communities, Laws, and Strategic Options

Breach of Trust introduces five new Communities and Factions, each with distinct ideologies, priorities, and expectations. Managing relationships between these groups becomes a central part of maintaining stability as the crisis unfolds.
Players will also gain access to new laws that shape how society responds to disaster, along with five additional buildings and infrastructure hubs that support expanded city planning options. Two new scenario maps are included as part of the expansion, providing fresh environments where players can test their leadership strategies.
Another key feature is the Independent Colony system, which allows players to determine how they interact with a nearby settlement through trade agreements, coercion, or outright conquest. These choices significantly influence both narrative outcomes and resource availability.
Expanding the Frostpunk 2 Experience

Since its release, Frostpunk 2 has continued to build on the morally complex survival strategy formula established by the original game. Breach of Trust represents a major step forward for the sequel’s post-launch support by introducing a substantial new storyline alongside gameplay systems that deepen both political management and environmental survival mechanics.
With its focus on volcanic instability, shifting public support, and inter-settlement diplomacy, the expansion reinforces the series’ core theme that leadership decisions carry lasting consequences.

Frostpunk 2: Breach of Trust launches on June 23 across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC platforms, offering players a new chapter in humanity’s struggle to survive the frozen apocalypse.
