Valve has announced three new hardware products that expand its Steam ecosystem: Steam Machine, Steam Frame, and Steam Controller. All three devices are set to launch in early 2026, though pricing has not been revealed.
Steam Machine: A Compact Gaming PC
Steam Machine is a small-form-factor gaming PC that runs SteamOS, Valve’s gaming-focused operating system. The device measures roughly 6 inches (160mm) on each side and is designed to fit under a TV or on a desk.
The system features a semi-custom AMD Zen 4 processor with 6 cores and 12 threads, plus a semi-custom AMD RDNA3 GPU with 28 compute units. It comes with 16GB of DDR5 RAM and 8GB of GDDR6 VRAM. Two storage options will be available: 512GB and 2TB, both with expandable storage via microSD card slots.

Steam Machine includes multiple ports for connectivity: DisplayPort 1.4, HDMI 2.0, one USB-C port, four USB-A ports, and Gigabit Ethernet. The device supports 4K gaming at 60 frames per second with AMD’s FSR technology and can output up to 8K at 60Hz through DisplayPort.
A notable feature is the built-in wireless adapter for Steam Controller, which allows up to four controllers to pair directly without additional accessories. The device also includes a customizable LED strip with 17 individually addressable RGB LEDs.

Steam Frame: A VR Headset for Streaming and Standalone Play
Steam Frame is a wireless VR headset that focuses on streaming games from a PC but also supports standalone gameplay. The headset features dual 2160 x 2160 LCD panels (one per eye) with refresh rates between 72-144Hz and custom pancake lenses.
The device runs on a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor with 16GB of RAM and comes in two storage options: 256GB and 1TB. It includes four outward-facing cameras for tracking and two internal cameras for eye tracking.
A key feature is Foveated Streaming, which uses eye tracking to deliver higher image quality where the user is looking. The headset comes with a wireless adapter that uses a dedicated 6GHz connection for streaming, while dual radios maintain a separate Wi-Fi connection for stability.

Steam Frame includes a modular headstrap with integrated audio drivers and a rechargeable battery. The core headset module weighs 185 grams, while the complete unit with headstrap weighs 440 grams.
The included controllers feature a split gamepad layout that works with both VR and non-VR games. They include traditional gamepad inputs like D-pad, ABXY buttons, thumbsticks, triggers, and bumpers, alongside VR-specific features like 6-DOF tracking and capacitive finger tracking. Each controller runs on a single AA battery, providing approximately 40 hours of use.
Steam Controller: A Multi-Purpose Gamepad
The new Steam Controller is designed to work across all Steam devices, including PCs, Steam Deck, Steam Machine, and Steam Frame. It features next-generation magnetic thumbsticks using TMR technology, which are also found in Steam Frame controllers.
The controller includes two 34.5mm square trackpads with haptic feedback, four assignable grip buttons, and a 6-axis gyroscope for motion controls. A new “Grip Sense” feature uses capacitive touch along the handles to enable or disable gyro aiming.
The Steam Controller Puck serves as both a wireless transmitter and charging station. It connects magnetically to the controller and provides a 2.4GHz wireless connection with 4ms polling rate. One puck can connect up to four controllers. The controller also supports Bluetooth and USB-C connections.

Battery life is listed at over 35 hours of gameplay, though this is reduced when used with Steam Frame’s tracking system. The controller weighs 292 grams, while the puck weighs 16 grams.
All three devices run SteamOS 3 and will be part of Valve’s Verified program, which indicates game compatibility. Valve has also announced a developer kit program for Steam Frame to improve game compatibility and performance.
