Disney+ has announced a new Japanese anime series, Death Stranding Isolations (working title), created by legendary game designer Hideo Kojima. The series is based on the popular post-apocalyptic video game franchise Death Stranding. In addition, Disney+ revealed the project at the APAC Showcase held at the Disneyland Hotel in Hong Kong. Fans received an early look at the anime.

A Post-Apocalyptic Story in Animation
The anime will be directed by Takayuki Sano, known for Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods, and produced by E&H Production, which worked on Project Bullet/Bullet. Disney+ confirmed the series will feature 2D hand-drawn animation. This approach captures the original game’s striking visuals while creating a fresh experience.

The story follows Sam Bridges as he attempts to save America. Meanwhile, other characters cope with isolation in their own ways. For example, an elderly man seeks salvation outside Bridges’ methods.

A female warrior fights to ignite a world of constant conflict. At the same time, a boy holds a grudge against Bridges, and a girl embraces her solitude. Eventually, their fates collide as humanity teeters on the edge. This begins another chapter in the Death Stranding saga.
Kojima’s Vision and Disney+ Collaboration
At the showcase, Kojima said, “I grew up loving Japanese anime, and it has shaped my worldview. I’ve always been a fan of Disney since I was small, and I was glad that they showed my documentary on the platform. When they approached me, I decided to work with them.”

Moreover, his documentary Hideo Kojima: Connecting Worlds, which streamed on Disney+ in 2023, highlighted his creative process. As a result, Kojima’s partnership with the platform led to this anime adaptation. Consequently, the project combines his signature storytelling with a global animation team.
Global Animation and Creative Team
Takayuki Sano added, “We want this to be a global animation project, with global talent.” Therefore, the series aims to appeal to both fans of the games and anime enthusiasts worldwide.

By blending Kojima’s themes of isolation, connection, and humanity with vibrant 2D animation, Death Stranding Isolations promises a visually compelling and emotionally engaging experience. For more updates on the show, follow Disney+ on their official X account.
