Two Malaysian students from Clazroom College made history at WorldSkills ASEAN 2025, bringing home a gold medal and a bronze medal in the 3D Digital Game Art category. Lam Kar Chun won gold and earned the Best of Nation title, while Goh Yi Jie secured bronze in Malaysia’s first-ever appearance in this competition category.
The Competition Challenge
The WorldSkills ASEAN competition tested students across six different areas of 3D digital game art. Participants had just three days to complete assignments that would normally take an entire semester at college.
One month before the competition, both students participated in a friendly match in Shanghai. The experience was humbling.
“We realized the level of global competition, and that we were not ready,” Yi Jie recalled.
That wake-up call changed everything. The students returned to Malaysia and extended their training period. With support from Clazroom College’s team, including lecturers Chew Khai Hung and Khai Hung, they underwent daily review sessions and after-hours work to refine every detail, tailoring their training by revisiting past year questions and focusing on areas that needed improvement across all six competition areas.
The Role of Hardware Performance

When the final seconds counted down on the last day, Kar Chun felt relief: “It felt like the rocks on my shoulders were lifted. It went smoother than I imagined.”
Yi Jie admitted mixed feelings: “There are areas I know I could improve, but I’m so happy that I completed it.”
Both students were surprised by their results. “I didn’t think I would win the gold medal,” Yi Jie said. “And it’s very unexpected to get Best of Nation as well.”
Kar Chun shared similar sentiments: “I also didn’t expect I could get a medal. At first I feel happy, and then after getting the medal, I feel like I can be better.”
Looking Ahead
The victory marks Malaysia’s successful debut in the 3D Digital Game Art category at WorldSkills ASEAN. Kar Chun is now preparing for the WorldSkills Asia competition in Taipei this November, while Yi Jie is considering taking additional courses for further study. Their advice to other students reflects their journey.
“Be brave to try out anything,” Yi Jie said.
Kar Chun added: “Take this chance to maybe breakthrough yourself. You never know your limit.”
