Publisher Nexon Games and developer LoreVault have released a behind-the-scenes look at their upcoming Joseon-era fantasy action-adventure title, Woochi the Wayfarer. In a new seven-minute video interview, director Kang Dong Yeon and art director Mok Youngmi share details about the game’s setting, tone, and creative direction.

A Legendary Mage in a Joseon Fantasy World

Kang explained that LoreVault’s mission is to blend powerful storytelling with immersive gameplay. Woochi the Wayfarer follows Woochi, a “Dosa” — or mage — as he trains and embarks on a journey filled with mythical encounters. The title captures Woochi’s identity and aspirations while remaining approachable for a global audience.

Mok described the setting as “Joseon fantasy,” where historical accuracy meets rich imagination. Players will meet characters and creatures from Korean folklore, such as dokkaebi, gumiho, and shamans, reimagined to fit the game’s vibrant tone.

Balancing Tradition and Fantasy

Some early footage led viewers to think the game had a dark tone. Mok clarified that its core atmosphere is bright, colorful, and warm. This approach helps Woochi the Wayfarer stand out from other East Asian fantasy titles.

The team blends authentic Joseon-era elements — like architecture, clothing, and landscapes — with imaginative reinterpretations to make the gameplay exciting. Designing mythical creatures is trickier, as historical references are scarce. Mok sees this as a chance for creative freedom, allowing the team to invent unique designs.

Bringing Korean Culture to Life

One of the teaser’s charming moments shows a magpie wearing a gat (traditional Korean hat). Mok said the bird copies a scholar, crafting the hat from twigs. The magpie, a majestic tiger, and the shaman character Myoan will all play notable roles in the story.

Kang noted that every teaser scene uses in-game assets. The team applies 3D scanning and MetaHuman technology to create lifelike characters. Their goal is to deliver an immersive visual experience that celebrates Korean culture.

A Story-Driven Adventure with Thrilling Combat

The game offers a single-player, story-driven experience with impactful cinematic storytelling and varied combat scenarios. Kang hopes players will form an emotional connection to the story by the end.

The teaser serves both as a first look for players and a call for developers to join the project. A release date has not been decided yet, but Kang promised more updates as development continues.

Kang encouraged developers passionate about single-player adventure games to apply. Open positions are available on the Nexon Games careers page under “LoreVault” or “Woochi.” Mok added that those with an interest in Korean culture or the Joseon era will find the work rewarding.
