Genshin Impact, the open-world action RPG developed by miHoYo, has officially surpassed 300 million individual players worldwide, according to data revealed during the 2025 Shanghai Top 10 Anime IP Selection Event.
Young and Rich Player Base

Held under the guidance of the Shanghai Municipal Administration of Culture and Tourism, the event celebrated the success of top anime-related IPs and showcased new insights into Genshin Impact’s player base, including detailed demographic breakdowns. The game currently boasts a 50-50 split between domestic (China) and overseas users, reinforcing its global popularity.
Data from the event revealed that 70% of Genshin Impact players are between the ages of 18 and 30, with a gender ratio of 60% male to 40% female. Nearly half of its player base resides in first-tier or equivalent cities, many of whom enjoy disposable income levels significantly above city averages—a sign of the game’s strong appeal among affluent Gen Z audiences.
The 2025 Shanghai Top Ten Animation IP Selection, organized by The Paper and the Shanghai Animation Industry Association aims to spotlight high-quality local animation IPs and promote Shanghai as a cultural hub and positions the city as a global center for animation and games as mentioned by The paper.

Key Game Achievements
Since its launch, Genshin Impact has grown into a dominant force in mobile and cross-platform gaming, with over 80 million followers across social platforms and recognition as the #1 mobile 2D (ACG) game domestically. The title also leads the daily average Baidu search index for mobile games and has been featured more than 1,000 times on the App Store.
Genshin Impact is currently available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, PC, iOS, and Android, with a Nintendo Switch version still in development.
