Gaming development company Virtuos believes the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 can handle any game that runs at 60 frames per second on Microsoft’s Xbox Series S.

Eoin O’ Grady, Technical Director at Black Shamrock (a Virtuos subsidiary), told Wccftech that any game running at 60fps on the Xbox Series S should “easily port” to Nintendo Switch 2. This statement comes from a recent interview where two Virtuos representatives discussed working with Nintendo’s next-generation console.

Virtuos has worked on many console ports in recent years, including Dark Souls Remastered, Hogwarts Legacy, and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered. According to O’Grady, the Switch 2’s graphics processor (GPU) performs “slightly below” the Xbox Series S, with this difference being more noticeable when playing in handheld mode. However, he notes that the Switch 2 has some advantages that help balance things out.

The Switch 2 supports DLSS technology, which the Xbox Series S doesn’t have. DLSS helps boost graphics performance, making the overall GPU power of both consoles fairly similar. When it comes to the main processor (CPU), there’s a bigger difference between the two systems. The Switch 2’s CPU is “closer” to the PlayStation 4, being just a bit more powerful than Sony’s older console.

This news suggests that Nintendo’s next console will be powerful enough to handle many current-generation games. For gamers, this could mean more options for playing modern titles on the go. However, developers will still need to put in work to optimize games for each platform, especially for titles that push hardware limits.
