Square Enix Cafe in Akihabara is set to close its doors on March 31, 2025, after eight memorable years of serving fans with themed food, drinks, and exclusive merchandise. As its final farewell, the cafe is hosting a collaboration event celebrating the 15th anniversary of the NieR series, beginning February 1, 2025.
The collaboration will feature two distinct phases, with the first running from February 1 to February 28, and the second from March 1 until the closure of Square Enix Akihabara Cafe. Fans can expect rotating menus, exclusive novelties such as illustrated lunch mats and coasters, and NieR-themed merchandise that honors titles like NieR Replicant, NieR: Automata, and NieR Re[in]carnation. Reservations for the cafe’s limited seating have already begun, with high demand anticipated as fans flock to pay tribute to both the NieR series and the beloved venue.

A Bittersweet Goodbye
The cafe first opened in October 2016 at Yodobashi Akiba, celebrating its debut with a Final Fantasy XV collaboration. It later relocated near JR Akihabara Station in January 2020, commemorating the move with a Final Fantasy VII Remake-themed event. Over the years, it became a popular destination for fans of Square Enix franchises, offering immersive experiences through themed menus and décor.
The decision to close the cafe was announced earlier this month, leaving fans with mixed emotions. While the attached merchandise corner will reopen after renovations, the cafe itself will cease operations indefinitely. Many find it fitting that NieR, a series celebrated for its themes of endings and new beginnings, is the final collaboration for the Akihabara cafe.
