Project L Gameplay Breakdown Explains More Of Its Tag Versus Gameplay

Riot has shown off new gameplay for Project L, going slightly more in-depth into how the game will play and explaining its Tag system in greater detail

In a new video feature, the developers discussed in further detail how the tag combat would work in the game.

Like other 2v2 tag fighters, Project L would feature gameplay primarily based around the one-button assist, which could also be charged for characters with charge assists.

These can be used as combo extenders, by having characters tag in to do their assists at the end of the point character’s combo string.

They showed off two new features building off of that, however: one of these was the handshake tag, which lets you switch out control to the Assist Character as long as they’re still on the screen.

In the example they showed, this creates longer pressure strings- as well as making for some devastating crossups as you can have your assist cross up opponent characters, possibly forcing a guessing game on where to block from.

Similar to titles like Blazblue Cross Tag Battle, the game’s Dynamic Save mechanic will also be tied to your assist, where you can call them in to break your opponent’s combo and buy you some breathing room.

It should be noted that while they jumped into the mechanics of how these work, they haven’t explained if they’d be tied to a resource- considering the integration of Dynamic Save into the tag system that seems likely.
