Fans hoping for an official Shenmue 4 announcement were disappointed after a viral trailer claimed to show the next installment. Ys Net, the studio founded by Shenmue creator Yu Suzuki, confirmed that the trailer misused their logo and falsely presented itself as an official release. The studio also said it may take legal action against the trailer’s creator.

Studio Statement on the Fake Trailer

Ys Net posted on social media that the trailer “uses our company logo without permission, falsely giving the impression that it is an official Shenmue 4 related video produced by us.” The studio clarified that it has not released any Shenmue 4 materials. Ys Net said it is working with relevant parties and preparing appropriate measures, including potential legal action.
A Brief Shenmue History

The original Shenmue launched in 1999 on the Sega Dreamcast, following Ryo Hazuki as he sought to avenge his father’s death. Its open-world gameplay and Quick Time Events influenced many games that came after. Shenmue 2 followed in 2001, but low sales caused the franchise to go on hiatus.

After Suzuki left Sega, fans successfully crowdfunded Shenmue 3, which released in 2019. Earlier this year, Ys Net and ININ Games announced Shenmue 3 Enhanced for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo consoles. The enhanced version adds 4K textures, better character models, and more NPCs to make the game world feel alive.
Fan Campaigns Keep Hope Alive

Shenmue fans continue to show strong support. Last year, a group purchased a Times Square ad in New York to campaign for Shenmue 4. While the viral trailer was fake, fan enthusiasm continues to fuel speculation about the series’ future.
What’s Next for Shenmue

Ys Net is focusing on managing the franchise and responding to unauthorized content. With Shenmue 3 Enhanced releasing across multiple platforms, the series is gaining new attention. Fans are encouraged to follow Ys Net for official updates and treat any unofficial trailers with caution.
